Set within a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse in Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, The Magic Garden is an independent bar and restaurant made up of a collection of characterful spaces spread across multiple floors.
Originally launched as a pop-up in July 2020, the venue has grown organically into a much-loved part of the city’s food and drink scene. The ground floor forms the social heart of the house — open, welcoming, and designed for everyday visits — while the upper floors offer self-contained spaces typically reserved for private events and larger bookings.
The Garden Room is our warm, welcoming indoor hideaway; a cosy, social space that flows effortlessly between the house and the garden. Guests can settle into the dedicated dining area for relaxed meals or enjoy a more laid-back spot for drinks, surrounded by greenery and wide doors that open straight onto the garden. It’s home to our signature food offering, from vibrant small plates to comforting pub classics and seasonal dishes made with fresh ingredients.
The House Bar sits at the centre of the building and sets the tone for the rest of the house. Designed for walk-up drinks and spontaneous visits, it features high wooden tables and an open bar that looks out across the ground-floor spaces. It’s a natural meeting point within the venue and a favourite spot for after-work drinks, casual catch-ups, and easing into an evening at The Magic Garden.
Tucked just off the main bar, The Snug is a cosy, traditional space defined by original wooden panelling and warmer tones throughout. Layered planting softens the room, giving it a relaxed, settled feel while retaining the character of the house. During everyday service it’s a welcoming walk-in area, and it can also be privately reserved for smaller gatherings and informal celebrations.
Light-filled and welcoming, The Parlour blends botanical styling with the character of a heritage townhouse. Eclectic décor, traditional detailing, and layered planting give the room a distinctive, lived-in feel that’s both elegant and relaxed. Positioned close to the main social areas, it stays connected to the buzz of the venue while offering a more defined place to gather and unwind.
Sitting at the heart of the building, the Middle Floor (Neon) is a bold, high-energy space designed for up to 120 guests. Neon lighting and 80s-inspired details give the floor its distinctive retro character, with a private bar and interconnected rooms forming a vibrant, self-contained hub. It’s a popular choice for private hires and programmed events, including Magic Bottomless Brunch.
Located on the top floor, the Smoker’s Lounge is designed exclusively for private events of up to 80 guests. With its own bar and dedicated DJ booth, it’s ideal for parties that want atmosphere built in. Rich, dark finishes and vintage furnishings give the space an old-world members’ club feel, with the adjoining Trophy Room offering a quieter spot to unwind.
